重度の自閉症の彼には、日常生活において様々な「こだわり」があります。美術教室に通い始めて11年。色鉛筆を紙に走らせることもその「こだわり」のひとつですが、ある時から綺麗に均一に画面を塗り込めて描くようになり、色彩も均整がとれ、彼なりに考えて絵画を制作しているのだと理解することができます。しかし、自閉症特有の「こだわり」はあります。それは、色鉛筆や鉛筆を同じ短さになるまで使いそろえることです。彼にとって作品制作をすることと、鉛筆を同じ長さにそろえることは、同じくらい重要であり、彼にとってはどちらも作品なのかも知れません。

He has various “obsessions” in daily life as he has severe autism. It has been 11 years since he started going to an art class. Using color pencils and drawing something is one of the “obsessions,” but one day he started coloring in neatly and evenly. The colors have also become well-balanced, so we can see that he is creating his works based on his own thoughts. However, there is an “obsession” which is specific to a person with autism. He keeps using color pencils and other pencils until they get to the same length. For him creating works and aligning the length of pencils are equally important and both of these may be his artworks.
