電卓にスケジュール帳、プロ野球のスコアブックに支援員の出勤状況、送迎バスの運行管理まで常にデータ管理が日課の彼は、作品制作においてもその几帳面な性格が表れている。絵画では、モチーフを描いた後、数ミリ間隔の升目を画面いっぱいにブロックごとに描き、一つひとつゆっくり丁寧に塗りこんでゆく手法を用いる。大きなものでは制作期間に1年を要することもある。また、英字新聞の文字を書き写した作品も、一文字づつ形で捉え書き連ねていく。これらは、創作という行為よりは作業と呼ぶ方が彼には適切なのかもしれない。真面目で、作業にも日々熱心に取り組む彼の仕事は、まさに職人というべき仕事なのだろう。

Yukio Miyashita loves data management. The type of data he is interested in varies greatly－the scores of the professional baseball teams, attendance records of the care workers, bus time table, etc. He treasures his calculator and organizer. His earnest character reflects on his artworks. One of the distinctive features of Yukio Miyashita’s drawing style is a motif of tiny squares that he meticulously colors. It can take him a year to finish a piece. Another characteristic feature of his work is copying letters from English newspapers, although it seems to be more of a task than an artistic creation to him.
